What Is the TN Visa?
The TN (Trade NAFTA) visa, now under the USMCA, allows qualified Mexican nurses to work legally in the U.S. in pre-approved healthcare roles. It’s:
Fast – No lottery, no long wait times.
Renewable – Valid for up to 3 years and can be extended.
Flexible – Ideal for nurses who want to explore U.S. opportunities before pursuing permanent residency.
TN Visa Requirements for Mexican Nurses
To qualify, you must:
Be a Citizen of Mexico
Only citizens of Mexico are eligible for the TN visa under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). You’ll need to present a valid Mexican passport when applying.
Hold a Nursing Degree or Diploma
You must have completed formal nursing education — either a bachelor's degree or a diploma in nursing — from an accredited institution. This proves you meet the professional qualifications required to work as a registered nurse in the U.S.
Have Passed the NCLEX-RN
The NCLEX-RN is the national licensing exam for registered nurses in the United States. Passing this exam is mandatory to practice as an RN and is a key requirement for TN visa eligibility.
Hold a VisaScreen Certificate
The VisaScreen® Certificate, issued by CGFNS International, verifies that your education, license, and English proficiency meet U.S. standards. It’s required for all foreign healthcare professionals entering the U.S. on a TN visa.
Have a Job Offer from a U.S. Healthcare Employer
You must have a written job offer from a U.S. employer for a registered nurse position. Connetics USA provides this as part of our direct hire model, connecting you with top hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Demonstrate English Proficiency (IELTS or TOEFL)
You’ll need to show that you can communicate effectively in English, typically through passing scores on exams like the IELTS or TOEFL. This is also part of the VisaScreen certification process.
